Nooni, the artist of ‘Do you wear colored glasses? 1,2,3’, is active in various fields such as wall painting, logos and illustrations. She graduated from Chung-Ang University, Graduate School of Education, majored in Art Education. She also has experience of participating in group exhibitions.
The cats in ‘Do you wear colored glasses?1,2,3’ has glasses on with colored lens. “Colored glasses” in Korea means biased view. By looking through the colored glasses you are looking at the world with the bias-colored sight not the existence itself. She wanted to deliver a message to look back at ourselves and think whether we were looking and judging the world with our biased mind.
There is no one without stereotypes. Even the open minded people have biases of their own. Every person lives in their own world created by their environment, family, and friends and more, which there is no wrong and right, people just live in a different world. It is natural to each one of them and they live with the norms that they created. But who is the right person to judge what is normal or abnormal. The important thing is not to judge other people with the norms that people have created by themselves. More experience and more interactions with various people help us to crumble down our biased and prejudiced minds.
Cats are crucial part of our society. People cannot recall when cats became a big part of our everyday lives but in some countries cats are more preferred pets and companion then the dogs. It used to be that ‘man’s best friend is a dog’ but not that saying might be slightly off. Now cats are not correlated with darkness and portrayed with the Satan, cats are more of an adorable creature that heals your soul and matches up with the word ‘healing’. Nooni artist wanted to portray a sharp cat that is not only cute but also has that look that looks through you. Nooni artist’s cats are not judging you but making you think of the norms that you judge others with. Nooni artist’s 1st NFT series asks you “are you wearing colored glasses to judge others?”
